is the 2006 diesel jeep liberty good? is the 2006 jeep diesel liberty good the motor and the hole thing?

Larry M replied: "Hi, The CRD Liberty diesel engine was canned in 2007 due to increased emission standards regarding diesel engines and diesel fuel. The Jeep Liberty had the 2.8L German made diesel engine available from 2004 through 2006. Although I never owned one I hear that most owners liked them a lot..until the government got in the way of a good thing (big surprise).. However, if I were in the market for a used Liberty I wouldn't hesitate to check out the 2006 diesel version."

does jeep Liberty 2008 come in Diesel? yeah i am looking for a newer jeep liberty diesel can someone tell me if 2008 jeep liberty's come in diesel or what is the newest year like 2007 i know 2006 does but we want a newer one.

Johnny Rotten replied: "I really don,t think they do...They should though...The u.s. is way behind the rest of the world when it comes to diesels...I think you can get a vw toureg in diesel..."

Can I convert my Jeep Liberty from running on diesel to running on natural gas? I know that it's possible to convert a gasoline engine to run on natural gas, but what about diesel? How much does the conversion cost?

robert d replied: "yes you can but as for the cost i dont know the other guys dont know what thay are talking about "

mustanger replied: "I think you'll find that LP is too volatile for a diesel. It would probably ruin it as fast as putting regular gas in it."

rick29148 replied: "Nope - Natural gas needs an ignition source ( spark plug ), which leaves the basic diesel out..."

Questions regarding Jeep liberty diesel? I'm considering purchasing a Jeep liberty diesel. The one I found is an 06, 85k miles (little high), 2.8 liter. My questions: Good price? Will I be able to pass emissions? Anyone out there have one of these with higher mileage? any issues? What should I look for?

Ron B replied: "I have a 05 with a little over 50k on it...only problem I've had is I replaced the EGR valve last weekend. There are less than 20,000 of these diesel liberty's in the US, so it might be hard to find a dealer who is familiar with them>"

Seahorse replied: "You can still pass emissions with high mileage, just make sure everything is up to date on the Jeep."

i have an 03 jeep liberty/cherokee 2.8crd diesel, sounds a bit rumbly at tickover are they all a bit like this? i have an 03 jeep liberty 2.8crd diesel and sounds very rumbly/even a bit rough at tickover sometimes sort of rumbles a bit doesnt knock, and only done 50k drives fine starts fine just sounds a bit rough at idle has anyone encountered this at all is it something to be concerned about,i know its twin cam,but would that make it run a bit rumbly, revs up fine and no problems,as yet

Chris H replied: "Almost all diesels are like that, so long as it clears up as the revs increase you probably have nothing to worry about. Of course without hearing exactly how it sounds it is impossible to be certain, but this is one of the things that puts people off diesels. Modern diesels that do near 50mpg and have way more torque than gas engines make them much better to own though."

stickyfingers replied: "a diesel engine runs @ almost 3 times the compression that a gas engine does...it will be a little noisy, find another one in your area and listen to it and talk to the owner...try local news add."

bobweb replied: "Make sure all the cylinder glow plugs are good and the air filter and fuel filter have been serviced."

HELP I put regular gas in my Jeep Liberty diesel car---? I had it towed home as I was leaving on a vacation---when I get back ===who do I take it to---what can I expect---will the car ever be the same again I live in the haines city area in Florida---I live near lakeland and orlando---thanks for your answers

hermitofnorthdome replied: "if you did not run it after you put the regular gas into it. it should be ok but you will have to have the tank drained and cleaned"

phenobulous replied: "drain the fuel system as thoroughly as you can. use diesel. disconnect injectors, crank engine to get all residual petrol out of fuel system. should work. it does on old diesel benzes. also go to mercedesshop.com to the tech help forum and read for information there."

holdenharwood replied: "It will be ok. BUT you will have to get the fuel system drained. The fuel filter will need to be replaced. And possibly the lines. Any good diesel or mechanic shop can do this."

sprinkles replied: "you need to take it to a dealer. do not try to start it under any circumstances. just turning the key to the run position is pumping the has up to the engine. the gas has no lubrication proplerties that the common rail diesel system needs. this means that the high pressure fuel pump will be damaged permanently to an extent, and the metal that comes off of the pump pistons will be forced into the fuel injectors. the metal cannot be removed from the injectors and they too would have to be replaced. if its driven with metal in the injectors, it changes the spray pattern and the potential 26000 pounds of fuel pressure can cut a hole in a piston or in a valve. if you do not start the jeep, you will avoid potential $8-10000 worth of damage. this would be more towards worst case scenario, but this damage happens more quickly than you could imagine-common rail engines are extremely precise-the high pressure pump pistons are so precise, if you hold one in your had and then try to intall it in the pump, the heat from your hand swells it enough that it will not fit untill it cools. to make a long story short, they will have to remove your fuel tank, drain and dry it out. the line from the tank must be free of gas, and the fuel filter will need to be changed. the whole thing will probably cost less than $200 plus tow bill. don't feel too bad, i've had to rescue of few of these."

vtx.1800retro replied: "if you didn't start the engine, all you need to to is drain the tank, nothing else. if you sis start the engine, then you just cost yourself a ton of money."

chrysti g replied: "i agree with sprinkles"

2005 Jeep Liberty CRD Diesel or a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta TDI diesel? Both in same price range.? Which one would be a better vehicle , which one would have higher operating coasts and which one is more reliable? Both will be used in Canada with winters hitting -50C or -58F.

Stupid Flanders replied: "The VW TDI is way better. I am not a big VW fan overall, but they do make the best diesel engines on the planet. You will average at at least upper 30's mpg. The Liberty Diesel is next to worthless because it gets about 1-2 mpg better than the gasoline engine Liberty at a huge premium in cost. You will average about 23-25 mpg."

Jeep liberty diesel's noise level? Does anyone know how much Liberty diesels are noisy compare to most Diesel trucks?

shenzoe replied: "they are quiet."

sfcjcl replied: "Well, I own a 2005 with 4500 miles on it. As with an diesel, they are somewhat louder when cold, once they warm up, they do quite down. Yet, you will notice at Idle that they tend to be annouce themselves pretty well. Here is a question for you, Are you considering in purchasing one? If you are, there are a few things to be aware of: One, the Jeep Liberty will not be offered in the 2007 model year in the United States due to new emmission standards. On those emmissions, there are a few states (5 in total) that you CAN NOT licence a Jeep CRD Liberty, because it won't pass the current emmissions standards. Two, Parts are NOT a problem due to Jeep selling the diesel version of the Liberty in Europe, Africa and the Far East as the Cherokee since 2003. Plus, U.S. Federal Law requires auto manufactures to continue to provide parts for 10 years after the "said" model year. And finally Three, I happen to know of a Jeep Dealership in my area that has three 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD's, brand new, never been sold, sitting on thier lot. They don't know how to sell a diesel. I can't list it here, but email me and I will give you thier name, address, and phone number."
