where can i go to find a ford 6.0 injector cup removal tool? Otc is one brand, i checked google and i cant find any, websites are appriciated

r u lookin at my rear? replied: "snap-on tools or matco tools, or ford dealer..see if they'll rent it to you."

Cyberdyne Industries replied: "If you work at a shop, any or all of the tool sales person should be able to get it for you. If you don't, then try a reputable parts store, they should be able to help get it for you. One other thing you could do is, find out when one of the tool sales trucks are at a shop in your area, plan on payin cash but see what they could do for you."

2003 Ford f250(6.0) fuel injector help??? I have a couple quick questions. First, where are fuel injectors located at? Under the valve covers? And Second, around how much should a shop charge to replace just 1 injector?? I got quoted around $600. Is this a fair price? Im no mechanic and don't want to get ripped. Any help would be appreciated

COLONEL CORN replied: "parts and labor on diesel vehicles is sickening. so yes that's a proper quote but not really fair."

paul4001 replied: "Ford's 6.0L is a problem child infact Ford stopped making them. Something to do with their injection system, have you checked with Ford regarding warranty before you have outside shop perform work."

i have a 2003 ford f250 deisel 6.0, can't figure out whats wrong with it? the problem keeps coming and going, one day it will run fine and the next day it will run terrible, sometimes when the excelorater is floored i won't be able to go but 20 mph, it usually idles really rough just before it starts to act up and most the time it will die, sometimes it takes a minute to start back up but it always starts again. we have replaced injectors 3 times in the last 2 years, and we have also had the computer reprogrammed and were still having the same problems, wonder what could be wrong and why we are going through injectors so fast???

jd replied: "What kind of diesel are you using?"

rat396 replied: "Ford has had LOTS of problems with the 6.0 Powerstroke. Take it to the dealer, have them pull up ALL of the technical service bulletins, (there are lots). They will find the answer in them. This is not for the DIYer. It is likely in the high pressure pump system. Good luck"

fasteddienspike replied: "how about replacing the fuel filter and running a pressure test on the fuel system. Ford mech. are dumb dumbs"

kawthing replied: "I don't know about Fords specifically, but have been around diesels a long time. Sounds like you have something in your fuel tank that never gets totally used up. Does it do any good to change the fuel filters, or do you just let it go until you need injectors? Have you owned the truck since it was new, or did somebody else abuse first? Do you have any not so friendly people around that may have put something in the fuel tank? It sounds a little like the symptoms of an old trick of putting eggs in the gas tank. They would be sucked up to the carb but would too thick to pass, the car would quit, then they would slide back into the tank and the car would run a while again. Couldn't hurt to totally clean the tank and put on new filters"

rich replied: "Lots of problems with them I have changed lost of high presuse pumps . Their is a updated one. The old on will wear off the gear after awhile. Codes would be helpfull. lots of eger and map sensors as well Carbon builds up in egr and and intake. Then plugs map sensor and vacuum line to map sensor. Also sometimes the fitting where the map vacuum line connects to in the intake. Hope this helps. Auto tec."

cardbros replied: "Fords full of shit....I'll never buy a ford truck again, 3 injectors gone, truck ran very rough, I told the bank to reposses the truck cause its garbage...bank sold the truck for peanuts 2003 f250 diesel guess how much $12,500.00...ford wanted $9,000 for repairs as no warranty applied as vehicle was theft recovery....."

2004 ford F550 6.0 diesel fuel system troubleshooting? Where to start. I live in Southern FL and I have a F550 that takes about 10 min of cranking before it finally starts up each morning. If I wake up at midnight and start it it will start right up. Then it will start right up at 8 am in the morning. If I do not start it at midnight it will take 10 to 15 mins at 8 am to start some times draining the battery dead. Is this hard start situation caused by a faulty fuel pump that supplies fuel to the main injector pump? Any help is appreicated. Jeff the temp is 70 degrees at night I do not use the block heater. However I do use the glow plug and it does not have any improvement.

Dr. Deviance replied: "Do you plug in the block heater at night? Do you let your glow plugs cycle?"

MANUEL G replied: "YOU NEED TO CHECK VOLTAGE AT YOUR GLOW PLUGS OR GLOW PLUG RELAYS AND CHECK YOUR FUEL PRESSURE WITH A SUITABLE GAUGE,DOES IT START WITH ETHER,MAY HAVE BAD INJECTORS ALSO."

i have an 06 ford f350 with 6.0 diesel engine. it suddenly started to smoke really bad when its cold.,? i took the truck to dealer and they tod me that injectores 13578 are not working. and i need to change them. i know a little about cars but i could not find them in engine. my question is why would 5 injectors go bad together and why the problem goese away when the truck warms up. and were are the injectors location . thank you

Tim replied: "If 5 of your 8 injectors were not working, you would feel an extreme drop in power. Before you replace anything, go to your local Kragen, NAPA, Autozone, etc, and buy some injector cleaner, you put it in your gas and its supposed to clear out any build up in your injectors. Also, Autozone has a free diagnostic tool that they plug into your cars computer and it tells you what is wrong, that way you can find out if the dealer was just bsing you. Good luck"

graywolfe1979 replied: "the injectors are located on the fuel rail and it is under the Valve cover. You will have to remove the covers to get to the injectors, The injectors all could go bad at the same time."

Will swaping my injectors in my PSD give me better fuel milage? I have a 1997 Ford F250 4x4 7.3L Powerstroke diesel and I was wondering if new injectors would increase my mileage. I heard it worked wonders for the 6.0 but I didn't know if it would make that big of a difference in a older 7.3 . If anyone's done this or has any other suggestions for better mileage I would apppreciate hearing from them.

Fred B replied: "You may have heard of the water for gas technology. Some believe it's a hoax because you cannot run your car on water alone of course! With a cheap and simple installation you produce Brown's Gas, also called HHO, which is mixed with the fuel (petrol, gasoline, LPG or diesel) your car is built for. This mixture is more fuel efficient because the hydrogen gas explodes first and heats up the combustion chamber before the fuel does. This results in an increase in gas mileage of 10 - 50 % The price of the conversion is quickly recovered, especially when you drive a truck or SUV. Just make sure you follow all the safety instructions and if you are not a mechanic, get some professional help! You can read more in the review below ..."

Mark D replied: "In some cases, swapping out injectors will help, others, it won't...It just depends on how dirty they are... Tips for increasing fuel mileage... 1. Install a K&N air intake on the truck. The truck has to work a lot less to intake air, which helps fuel mileage by a few MPG's... 150-450 bucks 2. Install a larger exhaust. This helps the engine expell gases better, rather than having the engine fight the back pressure. Also raises your MPG's... 200-800 bucks 3. Install a performance chip, or a programmer into your trucks' computer system. This will give you increased mpg's that you can see... 350-1500 bucks 4. Propane injection will make your truck run more efficiently...this price ranges a lot on this... 5. Water injection...same thing with the price... These are just a few ideas to make your truck more fuel efficient on the road. All of these ideas will also give you better performance, more horsepower, and will look and sound good going down the road. Just be cautious, the more aftermarket stuff you add on, the more you're going to have to watch your gauges. All this stuff can mess with your EGT's (exhaust gas temperature), coolant temperature, and more, which can cause more harm than good, so if you are wanting to do this, spend the extra few hundred dollars and have the gauges put in your truck...you'll appreciate it later..."

Anyone know about the service history of the new Ford Powerstroke? I have an F450 with the 6.0 liter Powerstroke. Worst engine of all time. 51K miles on it, every injector replaced at least once, turbo hoses keep blowing off, and now head gasket blown. Lucky I have the extended warranty. Dealer says got to wait until Friday b/c there is another in the shop now with the same problem. Need to know about the new engine and its issues with service guys. I know about Dodge and Chevy (I would buy either, but they don't make a ton and a half chassis cab 4x4), but I don't have a local dealer. I live in the sticks. I am not brand loyal to anything. Please, if you just bought one and it has a few miles on it....I need some serious hard miles or a mechanic that knows it thru and thru. And no, it has never been overheated or pulled many trailer miles. Thanks in advance!!!

misc 75 replied: "I have 6.0 powerstroke, beat it to the point that I sometimes feel guilty, pull heavy for the last three years, I had the plastic turbo duct change cuz it was a recall but thats it. Ever think that maby the problem is who is working on the truck and not so much the truck. The only thing I heard about the 2008 engines is that they can tell if you ever had a downloader installed.. Maby "auto tech 25" is the valued employee thats been working on your truck."

auto tech25 replied: "You are not the only one with this problem. The 6.0l is a piece of junk. They put this engine before proper research was done on it .Maintenace has nothing to do with it.IThey have been comming in our shop with same problems maintained or not .It,s funny that you have not changed any turbos yet .You should talk to the poor tech that has to work on them and ask him under flat rate how much money they loose working on them. Ford blames fuel here ,bull %$&^#. They are now comming out with a new one to replace it shows how good they are.I don,t see dodge or gm changing theirs. .I assume that you use your for working you must love the down time ,well all i can say trade it in when it runs again because your problems are not over and i don,t think the new one is going to be better. They tell us not to put them down at work because it,s not good for business. But i tell everbody that ask the truth .I can stand somebody spending high dollars to buy one of these and get a piece of . JUST WAN
justcurious replied: "Actually the previous guy is mostly wrong. Most of the 6.0's are trouble free, good engines that their owners swear by. However a few of them did have issues early on. I've seen a few that were buy-backs, fixed and re-sold with no problems. That's the reason these trucks bring top dollar."

Rakel replied: "The 6.0L DIT engine has had numerous issues, since it's introduction in early '03. EGR valve carboning up, turbos over/underboosting due to sticking or seized up vanes on the unison ring, EGR cooler failures. The '05 and up model years have had issues with low ICP pressure due to failed high pressure pump STC fittings, and worst of all, cracked branch tubes. The 2008 F-series trucks will add a pick-up box to it's F-450 line-up. The new engine is a 6.4L with two turbos. A low pressure fixed turbo, connected to a high pressure turbo with a VGT. There are TWO EGR coolers, a fuel and turbo actuator cooler, power steering cooler, and a charge air cooler of course. Apparently, a lot of research has been done on this vehicle, prior to its scheduled release sometime in February or March of this year. 90% of the repairs, if any are needed on the 6.4L will require removal of the body to access the engine. Therefore, if you plan on purchasing one, do NOT install any equipment that will obstruct the cab from being removed. The problematic 6.0L's have been the "grocery getters". The ones that have been trouble free, are the ones that are "pushed" hard, towing heavy loads, and driven hard, believe it or not."

I race cars replied: "its not fords motor its an international motor. they re junk ford is switching motors this model yr back to their own diesel. I was a warrnty tech for ford motor co. Problem after problem plague the 6.0 diesel. just like the trusty 302 ford had to mess with the v8 , the old saying dont mess with it if it aint broke the 7.3 diesel is a great motor and hopefully ford learned its mistakes by relying on someone else to give them a diesel. the europeans have diesel hybrids maybe we should look into what they got and why its cleaner burning and better fuel milage."

mike_i_n_mich replied: "This article below pretty much sums it up. Ford is sueing Navistar (former International), who was supposed to pay the warranty costs for their engine. The costs are so high that it is bankrupting Navistar. Who would have though that a company like International could not make a relaiable engine. Ford is going elsewhere for Diesels as fast as they can. "

gearbox1 replied: "The 6.4 if I remember is a international also but was beat to death before they will introduce them.. plus training is apparently better this go around. Haven't seen a 6.4 yet in person so I can't tell you how they are holding up yet... I will agree 100% with rakel, Usually the ones that catch problems are ones that are grocery getters or people who don't maintain them as we have many who "run it like you stole it" and never really have problems.... A reprogram was to take care of some of the problems actually with fuel injectors from what I heard on some of them But basically the powerstroke was radical in it's timing at the time it came out in 1994 but for emissions, the common rail beats it and that's basically why we have the 6.4 now for... as you don't have electrics trying to open a oil passage to have oil fire the injector anymore. And to the "programmer"... Occasionally, the programmers leave tale tale signs even if you recal it back to stock .. Haven't heard this new way of catching them yet (maybe how many times a file has been loaded into the PCM may be one way)"

mopardragracer replied: "Better check with your dodge dealer they are coming out with that 4500 chassis cab if it isnt already out now. Then you will have the truck of your dreams. 6.0 powerstroke.......Yep junk."

2002 ford ranger xlt engine problem? I have 103,500 miles on my 6.0 3 ltr ranger. After a long drive my engine started to rumble, shaking the whole truck while sitting in idle at a red light. then the check engine light went on, i checked the wires and spark plug to see if i was getting good consistent spark and i was. Im thinking(hoping) its the fuel injector. maybe its something else and hopefully not a blown valve. thanks for the help

mulleted nightmare replied: "remove MAF sensor from its housing, spray it off with ELECTRONICS cleaner as well as the housing and let air dry, then reinstall. check your air filter before you start it though and make sure it doesnt have dirt on the back side of it. if its still running rough, remove your IAC and fill it with carburetor cleaner (or equivalent that breaks down carbon) and follow instructions on can. also spray a LIGHT coating into the IAC passages in the intake manifold, let it soak in and scrape/wipe off. you should really buy a service manual from a parts store and check into the troubleshooting flow charts."

bmwrider001 replied: "Did the check engine light illuminate because the engine stalled or because it detected a problem? That is the question you should answer first, before you do anything else. Borrow or rent a scan tool or go to an Auto Zone where they will do it for no charge and see what DTCs are stored in PCM's memory, then see what circuits are affected and then determine what you should do about them."

I want to buy a used 2004 Ford diesel. please help!!!? The truck is a cab and a half and its a short bed with the 6.0 liter powerstroke diesel. The truck was 167000 miles on it with a bed liner. The truck is also straight pipe. I called the guy and he said he went to start it but it wouldnt start, he thinks its a bad injector but hes to taking to the dealer ship for fixing. he want 8 grand for the truck. is this a good pice for the truck?

FleetTech replied: "No . DO not buy it , or any other 6.0 powerstroke. They are money pits, trouble. Injectors are approximately $300 each. They are Hydraulically operated, electronically controlled The turbo is elecctronically controlled and also prone to problems If you want a Ford truck with diesel, look for an older one with the 7.3 powerstroke."

The Eagle Keeper replied: "Yeah like the guy above me said, avoid the 6.0L PS from Ford. Navistar International & Ford have been in court for yrs over who has to pay for all the warranty repairs on the 6.0L diesel engine. It has been a money pit for all owners & Ford who have them. A co-worker of mine has an 05 model F450 & it is junk. He has an older 01 Dodge w/ a Cummins & has twice the mileage that's better than the Ford. It also gets much better mpg's. It doesn't matter what the price is, your gonna dump a whole hell of a lot more into it for repairs. I've read where many people who have the 6.0L are pulling them out & dropping a used Cummins in them b/c they are simply better. It's a pricey swap, but then again so are the repairs. Take a pass on it."

Diesel Engine Running Rough? I have a 2003 Ford F350 with a 6.0 Diesel. Last week after I filled up it started running rough like it is missing. Could it be bad fuel or is it more likely a Fuel Injector Problem. The Engine light has come on and the owners manual does say bad fuel can cause these symtoms. I just don't want to hurt the engine. Should I keep driving through this tank of gas or take it in. I did add some additives in case it might be moisture or bad fuel. Help!

loonatic72 replied: "Hey, we have about 7 of those trucks here at work and we've had problems the accellerator sensor switch mounted to the gas pedal. Also have you changed your oil lately? Fords have a problem with old oil, the dealership calls it (nasty oil ) if your oil gets a little to old it'll start misfiring. And have you changed your fuel filter lately? Don't use a el-cheapo on that either it'll bite you in the butt."

Mr D replied: "you have gotten water in your fuel, it is in the fuel filter and WILL NOT COME OUT, drain tank(use it in a heater, bonfire etc) change fuel filter, it should solve your problem"

Herman F replied: "SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE PUT GASOLINE IN THE DIESEL FUEL, REMOVE THE FUEL CAP AND TAKE A WIF, IF IT SMELLS LIKE GAS PUMP IT OUT AND CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER"

sidecar0 replied: "Bad Fuel! If you have a fuel/water separator check it for water and drain it. Shop ASAP! Station that pumps a lot of Diesel or a good busy Truck Stop for better, cleaner Fuel!"
