how can i convert a 7 lug nut to a 6 lug on a 1999 Ford F-250? my friend has a 1999 ford f-250 and it was made for 7 lug wheels but its nearly impossible 2 find em so he wants to convert to a 6-lug how can he do that?

Serb82 replied: "Is this F250 a light duty model? (like F-150 body style?) or super duty like an excursion? My guess it has to be a light duty style since it is 7 lug. You would have to purchase a new hub for the front and axle shafts for the rear to convert for a 5 lug like a F-150. The axle shafts for the rear you can prolly get at a junkyard for a decent price but the hubs i would buy new."

edmoore02 replied: "your going to have to go to 8 lug if you change it i think you have a full floating rear axel if you do you have t see if the wheel bearing are the same for both 7 and 8 lug worst case your going to have to change the hole axle for the front prity much the same you might have to change the spindle also but do some resurch to see what the defrence is in the hubs you might get lucky and find they are the same or some one that makes an adapter plate for them the 7 lug was a really weard set up i thenk ford only used it 2 years but your one of the unlucy few that has one good luck with it"

grwaite replied: "Don't bother with the wheel hub change, won't work on that 3/4 ton anyway! Only on half ton. Just find wheel you like and have them (filled if necessary) and drilled... It doesn't cost that much and the hub change would cost soooo much more."

Tire size on a 2001 F150 7700 series with 7 lug pattern.? I have a Ford F150 7700 and was wondering if a 285/75/16 would go on it without having to lift it? Anyone out there have any thoughts?

Barry M replied: "I would say if it is 4X4 then yes. That size is real popular on trucks these days."

Ford Transmission Pulling Question? I have a Ford F350 Powerstroke (7.3) (1997) The truck itself is a excellent pulling truck but I am having issues with my Automatic Transmission. Whenever I have a load behind it (ie: Last weighed truck, trailer, horses, and equiptment. I was hauling 15,360 pounds) My Trans is shifting back and fourth when I hit any type a hard hill, and will not shift down till the truck hits 1,000 RPM's totally (for lack of better words) "Lugging" it down and dropping all the momentum I gained before hitting the hill. I do not pull in OD unless I am running over 60 MPH. I am not sure what to do I wanted to change from auto to manual in it, but that no longer seems feasable after what I have heard it involves. Can anyone recomend what to do, or what type auto trans for me to look at that WILL with stand this type pulling? I pull heavy loads that is why I got the 350 powerstroke, couldn't find it in a manual or I would have had that too. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thank You soooo much!

jasonbatla replied: "If it has a lock up tourque converter that might be where the problem is"

globeweasel replied: "yer right, autos are no good for havey loads. but maybe they make a three speed auto trany."

Will S replied: "I am not a trans expert but I have to admit you gave a very descriptive analysis of what is going on (something you dont see here often). I would find a trans shop in your area with a solid tranny guy and explain what you just stated here and I bet they have delt with that many times. If you have no luck, I can refer you to an awesome tranny guy that could answer it for you."

sh752 replied: "Based on the information provided, and what is available from the Ford information, your biggest problem is that the vehicle is over it's GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating). Take a look at the RV and Trailer Towing guide. No way around that except to lighten the load. You also need to consider the trailer frontal area (wind resistance) Many of the problems encoumtered with any truck in this class is that people try to haul too much. You will have to keep it in O/D cancel mode, and downshift manually to second up grades instead of waiting for the processor to do it."

Bert from Brandon replied: "A transmission tow/ haul kit will definitely help. Your local aftermarket auto store will sell this. PS ; I bought the GM for the Allison transmission, and really like it for towing. It has a manual shift mode. I regularily haul 20,000 lbs with it."
