Which is a better sports car to buy: a 4-yr old Porsche Boxter worth £24 thou or new Audi TT worth £28 thou? My husband is torn between these two options. He likes the Audi bec our current family car is an Audi and the fact that the choice is brand new, and service is not a problem, but still he says"a Porsche is a Porsche".

Dylan R replied: "porsche boxter i recon an audi tt is a rip in australia it's like $80,000 and i think it's only a 4 cyclindar i think thats what me dad says"

GENESIS replied: "Porsche Boxter"

johnboy replied: "Boxters have disposable engines in them I would go with the Audi"

jonboy2five replied: "You should keep in mind that the Porsche has already depreciated and will hold its value quite well. The new Audi will depreciate quickly (since its new) and resale isnt nearly as strong as the boxster. Good luck..."

GGT replied: "Frankly, I would go for the Audi TT. From any point of view, this model is simply destroying Mercedes Benz. Indeed, the quote "a Porsche is a Porsche" is old fashioned. Anyway, if your husband insists on these second-hand Boxter, I would recommend you any 911. As the SLK, the Boxer is considered a cheap failure."

RStarga... replied: "The Audi TT is a fine car in it's own right, but it's platform is based on the Golf. I think you shoudl find a better deal on a Boxster, and get it."

tim s replied: "I have a 2002 Boxster S...i love it. Audi TT, though a nice ride, tends to look feminine to me..."

syphon4ever replied: "Audi."

Zim replied: "The Porsche is still faster and has better handling. But, in the rain or snow, the Audi is faster. Porsche is now buying Vw/Audiand they already control it. I have driven both cars and it is a tough choice, but I would choose the Porsche because it is a Porsche. Porsche is more famous for its sportscars, supercars, and racing history. Audi is just famous for rally racing and Prototype racing."

drwer2 replied: "I own a 99 boxster and my inlaws have 2003 TT. One is a sports car, the other isn't. if it were, then it would have a suspension system in it. it would also have a better power curve for the engine. the 986 (ill admit i hate the name) shares practically everything with the 996 except displacement. I challenge you to look that up. It really does 157mph, (with the top up) and I have the speeding ticket to prove it. The TT isnt capable. more importantly, you can stuff the 986 into a corner and slam on the brakes without a single worry. It can take the abuse and keep going. So far the only "failure" Ive had was the center console ashtray spring. I dont smoke so it holds quarters. Audi's are great family cars and sedans. Ive often thought of getting an A6. Lots of power, stability, no pretense. and superior crashworthiness. Porsches are statements of status. Most of us who own them go on and on about the engineering in them. And there is lots to talk about. They command a high price. Most of the detractors Ive read, sound like sour grapes. To say that porsche is Old-school sounds like it comes from someone without schooling. If thats the case then go by a Z350. Same stats, lots cheaper. so when you break it, you can get antother one. good luck"

freedomarms2 replied: "it would definitely be best for him to test drive both and say for himself. performance wise both are virtually equal. one of them is newer :)"

Jake B replied: "i disagree with u all i wrechon a nice older model not to old but not to old i am only saying this cause i like oldish cars and i think they look cool( mind u some new one lokk quite nice 2) i am currently fixing an old 1964 cortina forde it look like a dump at they moment cause it got stolen 2 times but any way he has to choose for himself we cant decide 4 u"

J E replied: "Between those two models I would say the audi even given the fact Im a "porsche man". Why? The boxter engine is not trustworthy and does not live up to the porsche name. I highly suggest getting an older 911. I dont know what 28 k pounds is in dollars but the most desirable is the 930 or a 911 turbo (same car). But other 911's are great too. But it IS a sports car. Then again so is the boxter but with less 'sports'. Good luck"

Simon A replied: "Like your Husband says; "a Porsche is a Porsche" But i got to admit the Audi is not a bad choice either! Personally I'm a Porsche person so I can't be neutral on the decision so go for the Porsche!"

David M replied: "My last two cars were/are a 2000 Audi S4 and a 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera S. Love both cars. I agree with a previous poster. If you are interested in a Porsche, I would opt for the 911."

is an Audi tt worth it? im interested in an audi tt but i have a couple questions on it. first is it a good car for a 19 year old or is the car kinda girlish? second of all, is it a better car than most? such as rx8? 350z? sti? a4? a6? or what? please tell me about the car! oh and i dont want the convertible type....

da8472 replied: "If your definition of girlish is "more look than cook," than yes it is a girlish car. The TT is a hairdresser's car (definition on Urban dictionary). If you must have it, get a V6 with 4WD to maintain at least some dignity. Convertible or not, the TT has nearly the same image as the New Beetle. I usually laugh at all the middle age guys who bought one believing they've made it in life. They bought the Audi badge without knowing anything about the car. Honestly, every car you listed is better than the Audi TT if you are talking strictly performance. My suggestion is get the RX8. Lots of power from small displacement thanks to the rotary engine. Bottom line: the TT is a fashion statement, nothing more."

sellexoticcars replied: "The Audi TT is a great car. The Quattro all wheel drive will allow you to drive it year round. You can actually purchase one with pretty low miles for around $12K."

Tilen replied: "It has a girlish appeal unless you are talking about the new body style from 2008 onwards but it may not be better than the 350z which worth more for the money for its looks and power. And it is not better than Sti, A4 and A6."

kailee408 replied: "i honestly would never purchase an audi again. i got the top of the line audi a4 brand new and after couple of months it actually stopped in the middle of the freeway!! luckily i was in traffic and wasn't going too fast and was able to get it off the road. the engine completely just shut off yet my radio worked. waited hours for a tow truck amd when the audi service department fixed my car they were not very friendly at all. they said there was a recall which i never heard of or received a letter about. they used up all my gas (they had to run the engine) and so when i got my car i had no gas at all and they blamed me for it. my friend also has an audi a4 in which she is having problems too. horrible car and horrible service. usually cars like roadsters are more towards the girlish side but it depends if you fix it up."

Is it worth having the Audi dealer do the 60,000k service? I have a 2003 Audi TT which is no longer under warranty, so the dealer will charge me for service. Is it worth having the dealer do the 60K service, or am I better of going to a Audi shop?

suprasteve replied: "as long as whoever works on it knows what they're doing and checks all that they need to check, I don't think it matters, personally I trust my mechanic over the dealership people, but that's me"

GS79 replied: "Even if the dealership charges a little bit more for the service, I'd go with them. Peace of mind."

uthockey32 replied: "Find an independent. Where are you at maybe I can recommend a shop in your area."

wally_zebon replied: "Having a dealer stamp in the log book will make it much easier to sell to an Audi dealer. But if you plan on moving away fro Audi then it won't make such a difference. If you plan on keeping the car for a while longer then go for an independent and get cheaper labour rates."

Satish replied: "My 2 Cents... Some Audi Shops are very passionate about the Audi's.... they do a better job... especially if its your first time visit and tell them you just moved in town... to gain a repeat customer, they will do a nice job and also you can gain an Audi specialist advice. Now coming to the hard part.... *Finding that Audi Mechanic that's worth the weight of gold...* Start searching I would say 15-20 miles is no distance if you can find a honest Audi specialist who has that real reputation/experience. I dont intend that dealership guys are bad but try to make them your second choice"

achilles1187@sbcglobal.net replied: "Audi shop"

Dave replied: "If you are going to sell it, then go. Or just go to an ordinary shop for the service"

samzgaastra replied: "Audi shop and here's why. The 60,000 service is a big one. All sorts of belts and fluids are replaced. Just had mine done and it was, okay, a little more expensive that Joe's Crappy Garage down the road but I've got a lovely Audi stamp in the logbook and that will keep up the residual value. I've also got the piece of mind that if anything goes wrong with the new parts, I'll take it back and will have some consumer rights. Also, they loaned me a shifty little A3 while my A4 was in the shop. Change bulbs and oil yourself, get Audi to do the big stuff. Cheers"

Is an Audi A6 worth the extra money over an A4? Just curious, am looking to trade my Audi TT for either.

aryanb78 replied: "If you're a TT man, you won't cope the hugeness of the A6. The A4 is much more agile in cornering and acceleration, not with the sacrifice of much of ride comfort comparing to A6. Then the A6 is an exec sedan, way in a different league, suited to middle-aged execs. The A4 quattro with 3.2 V6 FSI and dual-clutch S-tronic is entirely a different animal."

213 replied: "If you're a middle-aged businessman, yes. If you want to drive for speed, no."

cohibasafterdark replied: "My friend has a new A6 and while it's a great car, it's just way too big. I say go with a new A4. They're much better looking than the 3-series or C-class and handle pretty well."

Is an audi tt 2000 116,000 mile perfect condition worth $9000? -116,500 mi. -5 speed manual transmission -All Wheel Drive -Leather interior -BOSE sound system -116,500 mi. -5 speed manual transmission -All Wheel Drive -Leather interior -BOSE sound system PICS>
Doc replied: "An incredible car, but it's 9 years old now! Somebody else may pay $9,000, but I doubt it. Perfect condition sounds inviting. After a professional report or appraisal, I might pay $7500 and no more than 8. Good luck."

Blue Steel replied: "Check out the Kelly Blue Book Price below.... = I would pay 8,500 for it, since it's a manual it is usually cheaper then automatics"

Audi 2001 TT Repair or Sell As Is question Audi TT 01 93K miles, needs 5K worth of repair ( Audi dealership estimate) flywheel and crankshaft bad....can't decide to trade in as is, or repair with generic parts and sell back in working condition. Even with generic parts its still assumably an expensive repair.

jackfoo replied: "fly weel and crank shaft is prity easy repar but spendy parts you may get off much cheeper to just replace the moter the moter from a salvage yard will run from 600-1300 the cost to put thim in is rufly 600-800$ look for a no name shop out of town for the cheepest labor the 100+ the dealer is a rip off meny shops charge 40-70$ if you go away from major citys"

Khodr D replied: "dealler ships sell parts for a lot more then u can get them from individuals. i say repair it then sell it for 12-14k thats what im doin with mine"

answering replied: "Nope it is not. It should be way cheaper with the current crappy economic conditions."

Tristan S replied: "Nope. I've driven TT's aplenty, and they aren't worth 10k. They're heavy, their handling blows compared to other offerings, their power is okay but again, not stellar.... and moreover they're VW electronics. VW electronics suck."

☆ • Monsieur London • ☆ replied: "That depends on what country you are in, I wouldn't pay that much for the TT with the standard four cylinder. In the U.S. that is overpriced but I don't know what things cost in your country. In the U.S. that car is worth like $40,000. Good Luck! BTW it is a very good car and I do like it!"

Frank from GDM replied: "I like how they listed standard equipment as if they were options."

cbear replied: "Everything you have mentioned is standard in a base model TT and the price is way too much. That car should be around 40000. Mine is 2008 3.2 all wheel drive with options like bixenon adaptive headlights, Bose surround sound, nav system, park distance control,Ipod interface, bluetooth and best of all the magnetic ride. This car cost me 55,000 with tax and all .Standard is the 18 inch 10- spoke bicolor wheels, sirius sat radio, automatic spoiler, rain sensing wipers, courtesy lights etc. Check out the Audi website for standard and options but that price is A total ripoff.."
