About Jeep Liberty Car Cover in Q&A
I drive a 2005 Jeep Liberty, and the inside of my car, fogs and condenses water. What do i do? I've noticed that ever since i've bought the vehicle, i can randomly look outside and see that the windows have fogged, and it hadn't been driven for two days. Also, the inside fogs really easy when driving down the road. But the other day, i was coming out of school, around 3 and it had done it again. Except when i got inside it looked as if water was on my windshield, so i turned on my wipers, my windshield was dry. I came to find out that the whole inside of my windshield was covered in water droplets, i have no clue what happened, so i had to get napkins and dry it off so that i could see out. What is wrong, and how do i fix it?? Should i ask the guys at the mechanic place? I don't know what to do.

Texas M.B.A. replied: "turn the defogger / defroster on the Air conditioning / heating unit. if this does not work take it back to the Mercedes, umm.. i meant Jeep dealership. take pictures of what is going on or they may not believe you. also check the national highway traffic safety association website for recalls."

geezer 51 replied: "maybe a leak in your heater core. or try leaving window slightly cracked when you're driving, while turning on defrost to high."

Kelly J replied: "You may have a leak somewhere. I had a car in which the windshield leaked, and I had that problem you could feel in the floorboards and the cargo area after a hard rain or any other time it is fogging. The other thing would be the heater core could be leaking in which case you may want to take it to a mechanic as it is usually a fairly bothersome task. If you can't figure out which it is, then carry it to a mechanic you trust. They can figure it out for you."

emade m replied: "boy that is one special car u got there take it to the machanic and see what they can do about it."

Kenneth S replied: "your heater core is bad...replace it...that's all..."

dodge man replied: "i own a repair shop, and you have a leak in it some where ,this is what makes them do this,,its rain water or moisture getting in,either around a door seal,,or some where else,,and when it cools down,,it draws the moisture to the glass,,if you,ll feel in under the carpet,,it may be wet,,or damp,,it don't take much to cause this,,also check the passengers side of it real good ,it may be a bad heater core causing this to happen,,good luck,i hope this help,s."

hithere2ya replied: "I own a 2006 Liberty Limited CRD. It does not make a huge difference but may help to know the area wherein you live- high humidity will condense on a windshield that has had the a/c run thru the defroster sometimes, but that does not seem to be your real issue. If you are loosing coolant in the radiator but it is not puddling on the ground then you may have a leaking heater core/hose. Is there a smell of anti-freeze? That too is a tell-tell sign of a heater core/hose leak. If it is the heater core condensation will also get worse with the defrost "on" as it is then that coolant circulates through it- at least on most cars. Condensation occurs on glass when the ambient temp on one side of the glass drops lower than the ambient temp on the other side, thus causing condensation of water droplets on the windshield. A glass of ice water or ice tea is a good example of condensation. The temp inside is cooler than the temp outside thus water condenses on the outside. You may run a water hose over the windshield to test for a visible leak or use a car wash with pressurized water and see what happens there. A body shop or glass shop should cost less than a regualr shop for repairs if there is no warranty. Ask for a policy adjustment or "good will" availability if just beyond warranty, like 38K-39K miles or 37-38 months, you should get it. Typically a "leaking" windshield or door seal will not fully or nearly cover the entire windshield, rather it will leave tracks; condensation will usually fully cover the windshield. Since it is a 2005 if the mileage is less than 36K it came with a 3yr/36K bumper to bumper warranty, take it back to the dealer for a check-over. Be kind to the dealer service writer, he did not build the Jeep, Jeep did. He is there to assist you not cheat you. Kindness will get you further. I got warranty on my S80 T6 Volvo after it ran out of warranty because of the service writer going to the service manager and my kind words to him, blaming rightly the auto maker, not the serivce provider. Good luck!"

Doctrine365 replied: "It sounds like a leaking heater core, but that's very unusual fro that new of a car. If you smell maple syrup, kind of a sweet, hot odor, that's a heater core leak. It should be covered under warranty. It's a very expensive repair otherwise."

carlos replied: "you might want to get your window seal checked.it may be leaking from there.and you can buy fog-x from your local auto parts store.fog-x works great.all you have to do is apply it to a cloth and wipe the inside of your window."

Should I buy a 2007 Jeep Liberty? My wife and I are shopping around for new cars and she really likes the look of the Jeep Liberty. We already know it isn't going to get the greatest gas mileage and not the smoothest ride. I just want to know how people feel about, who have owned one or know anyone that has. We are just trying to cover all the bases. Pricing is another issue, but that is for another time, another place. Thanks for the help.

Brain replied: "We rented a Jeep Liberty and I loved it. I don't understand your comment about not greatest gas mileage nor smoothest ride...so you're buying it because.... Dude never buy new. That is such a waste of money! Enterprise sells their previously rented vehicles much cheaper and Craigslist.com has cars too. If I could buy a Jeep Liberty, it would be my first choice. There you go."

360 replied: "heck ya dude that thing is so sweet"

sconsin replied: "the liberty's are going for cheap right now you should be able to get a good deal, the only thing i dont like about them is they just seem too small and cramped inside for an suv but thats just my .02"

TERRY H replied: "It is a great vehicle,it has a very nice ride and gas mileage is not that bad.Wait until September and you will get a very good deal with the new redesigned vehicle coming out.I wouldn't believe howard s,I read some of his other answers and he is just a foreign car lover."

Hakem replied: "Not if you've seen the Patriot or the Compass. They are way better than the 2007 Liberty. Well maybe not the 2008."

the_buccaru replied: "The main question you should be asking yourself is do we want or need a "Real" 4WD system. The Liberty has running gear like a Wrangler and will go in pretty rough off road conditions. Most folks don't go into that extreme off roading. If you do the Liberty would be great. If you mainly drive on the highway and just want to go on dirt trails and have good traction in medium highway snow I would then go for a Compass or one of the other more highway (and gas) friendly vehicles. Almost all of the companies now have good small crossover vehicles.. CRV, RAV 4, Escape, Tucson, A new small Nissan coming next month I think..."

baller replied: "well i myself have a grand cheerokee. And it aint to gas savy. if its the v6 itll be wrose or the 4cylinder will be better. if u want a gas saving car look for some japanese cars some look nice. But i gotta agree with ur wife the liberty looks nice, all jeeps look nice!"

zebra replied: "absolutly no no no no no. I owned a 2005 and it was an absolute nightmare was i didnt go 3 weeks in one time during the 2 years i owned it that it was not in the shop for something. Chrysler products have gone down hill considering that chrysler is over 10 billion dollars in debt i think that they will be cutting corners when the build there future cars and trucks. Have a 2007 jeep wrangler and gave chrysler one last chance to get on my good side but it has had so many problems too that there is a 90 percent chance that i will never buy another american car ever agian. I know when i get done with the wrangler im going to buy a toyota fj"

What are some different materials used to cover the seats of cars other than leather and your normal cloth? My 2004 Jeep liberty seats are covered in a material that I wouldn't exactly call cloth but isn't leather. It stains very easily and I am going to buy some upholstery cleaner and try to attempt to clean the seats. I'm just not sure what kind of cleaner would be safe for the particular fabric. Does anyone have any knowledge about what kind of material this could potentially be? Maybe Nylon or Rayon or something?

glhs736 replied: "I have had lots of success with a cleaner called Tuff Stuff. You should be able to find it at any auto parts store. I used it to get a melted chocolate bar out of gray cloth seat. Easy to use and has not affected any of my cars, either the cloth seats or colored plastics."

Seat Covers Unlimited replied: "Try taking your car in to a local Carwash / Detail shop. Most offer a steam cleaning service, which is fairly inexpensive, yet works wonders. I've seen cars with the nastiest carpet, having soda stains, etc. It came right out, and the carpet looked brand new afterward!!! Good luck!"

Jeep Liberty Emissions Leak Code? I just bought a 2002 Jeep Liberty 2 days ago, warranty only covers engine and transmission. I got a "check engine soon" light and the diag sends P0455 code which is a EVAP Emissions Control Large System Leak. I checked the gas cap and it is tight fitting with no leaks or cracks and it is a factory cap. The car runs fine with no problems any suggestions and is it ok to drive it with the error?

smrfet13 replied: "most of the time ur right its just ur gas cap if the trucks not running bad it will not hurt it to run this way for a while. try going to advanced auto or auto zone they will scan it for you and turn off the error code if it stays off it was the cap if not you might have a bad o2 Senser"

alfredb1979 replied: "Large leaks are not from gas caps or O2 sensors as the previous misinformed poster says. You need to get to a shop and have a smoke test run on your Heep. Of course your Heep runs fine. That's the point of OBD systems. To alert you before your ride dies."

i am buying a new car and it is a cross between a kia sportage and a hyundai tucsan? i had the unfortunate pleasure of being in a accident with my 2005 jeep liberty. we loved the car and it was totalled buy another driver. the safety features worked perfect, we walked away. but here in nj, by law we have to have insurance and it does not cover any extras you put on a car and any fees you pay for a new car( ex. state sales tax, nj tire tax etc...) therefore i must purchase a cheaper suv. at the time i purchased my jeep at 0% interest . i am loosing about $1100. in taxs and fees in which we are stuck paying again for somebody elses fault and nothing we can do about it( i consulted with a lawyer) anyway looking for a low cost 2wd suv any ideas would be great thanks

bobsled replied: "Perhaps you did not know this but Hyundai now owns KIA. You can get a great deal on a 2007 2 wheel drive Ford Escape or Mercury Mariner because the 08 models are already out. Also great deals on 2007 Saturn Vue because the 2008 will be out next month"

phil R replied: "it is the exact same car. Hyundai bought Kia in 2000. so one or the other, no difference, go for the best price you can get. Hyundai are now very good vehicles with a nice warranty. Don't worry about buying one. It's a very good bang for the buck. The interior design is very elegant, they handle well, the look has nothing to be ashamed of. On the cons, the 4cyl is not that powerful (140hp) and the standard tires aren't that great. Compared to the liberty you will lose a bit of cargo space. the towing capacity is about 1/3 less even with the 6-cyl. the 6-cyl also has 30 less HP but because it's lighter (with the 6-cyl) you will get slightly better acceleration and a top speed higher by about 10mph and better fuel economy. The Hyundai is even suppose to be more reliable than the liberty. Stay away from the Suzuki grand vitara. The best choice in this size SUV is the Rav-4."

faridegy replied: "They are both identical go with the one you like it's shape more or if you can get a Toyota rav 4"

Jeep Liberty tie rod? My 2003 Jeep Liberty (about 70,000 miles) just broke on me. The tie rod looks like it broke and is leaning on the ground on the drivers' side. I noticed on a website that there is a recall for the "SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT." I know nothing about cars though, so this means very little to me. Does this have anything to do with why my car is broken and is this covered under some kind of warranty for suspension (7 yr 70,000 powertrain)? If not, how expensive would this be to have fixed? Would I be better off just getting a new/used car?

tchem75 replied: "Contact your local Jeep dealer and discuss the warranty/recall status of your vehicle."

m_c_m_a_n replied: "I see a definite relation. If there is a legitimate recall for your vehicle by all means take it in and it should be taken care of under the stipulations of the recall."

Jeffrey S replied: "No, I don't think you will be able to sell that to a dealership. The lower ball joint would be considered seperate from the tie rod you broke. You are best off going to a shop that can do alignments and have them replace the tie rods with new parts and do an alignment on your Jeep. It's probably going to run you around $300 to $500 bucks."

Stuka replied: "Yes the recall is legit, call your local dealer to see if your year is covered for the recall. If it is it's free, if not ,around 500 dollars to fix."

P0455 Error EVAP Emissions Control Large Leak 2002 Jeep Liberty? I just bought a 2002 Jeep Liberty 2 days ago, warranty only covers engine and transmission. I got a "check engine soon" light and the diag sends P0455 code which is a EVAP Emissions Control Large System Leak. I checked the gas cap and it is tight fitting with no leaks or cracks and it is a factory cap. The car runs fine with no problems any suggestions and is it ok to drive it with the error?

ThunderRod79 replied: "It is OK to keep driving but you should eventually have it fixed. You won't notice a difference in drivability with this issue. Causes: A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened: * A loose or improperly affixed gas cap * A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand) * A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube * Other small leak in EVAP system * Faulty vent o-ring seal It is most likely a small leak on the EVAP Hose With a P0442, the most common repair is to: * Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back. * Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or * Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses"

desgraciado79 replied: "Take it to the shop and fix it. Duh."

2004 jeep liberty with westin brush guard and taillamp covers? so im getting my moms car....i need to make it less of a girl car asap. 1st pic is what it looks like now and the other 2 are what im adding. tell me what you think>
Brad F replied: "the car looks fine as-is...don't be a doosh with 100 after market things taped, glued and screwed on your car...invest your money and buy a real "man's car" in a few years"

Steve A replied: "Not bad, but remember it's just bolt on stuff. You might consider, for pretty close to the same amount of money if you shop carefully, a 2.5" budget boost lift and larger tires and wheels. You can find great buys on tires on places like Craigslist and ask other Jeepers, you can get pointed to some bargains if you're patient and ask around. And don't worry about the KJ being called not a real Jeep. I've seen a couple of them lifted with big tires and pretty well built running at Moab and in the desert here in California and they are more than capable with a good setup and in the hands of a good driver. Check out Rocky Road Outfitter's KJ, sweet looking rig. With a little thought and not a huge amount of money you could do something similar. Their 2.5" combo kit is $219, probably about what you'd spend on that front bar and easy to installyourself. Find a good buy on some used 265/75 tires (like take offs from a Rubicon maybe), they're a nice size for the Liberty, easy to find on the cheap and totally changes the look. Take your time, budget wisely and you can build a great trail rig. Try to keep away from bolt-ons for the sake of looks, go for form and function at the same time. It's a better investment in the long-term. In the mean time, let folks make fun of the Liberty, build it up right, then go out and wheel them into the dirt when you get it built up right."

Is it normal for all three catalyst converters go out on a 2003 Jeep Liberty at the same time? I was driving my car and it sounded like I was dragging something underneath. I took it to my regular mechanic and he told me that the catalyst converter (not one, or two but all three were bad). I wanted to find if this is normal? It's a 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport, with 89,000 miles. I drive it about 80-100 miles a day work and around living area. No off road activity. Could this be defective. I checked the federal emissions law but it covers up to 8 years or 80,000 miles.

johnboy replied: "You been useing very bad (Cheap) gas from an station that puts crapin their gas!!"

Danie replied: "converters get this way from either too much or not enough fuel to the engine.bad sensors,or weak fuel pumps will do ths every time."

hawaiifirewalker replied: "No this is not common !Unless you were add rocket fuel to your Jeep Okay ! So tell the Garage to show this mechanic federal emmissions report for you Jeep and demand a copy to show the loca Office of EPA. look in the phone book and fax over the copy and they will examine the three and mail you a their finding Good luck"

The seats in my car really hurt my back, what are some really good seat covers? I have a jeep liberty, I drive a lot and the seats really hurt my back. I am wanting some seat covers that are very comfortable.

j l replied: "get the back pillows that are shaped like a lumbar support...you might have to look around. ask a chiropractor."

Mr.Hord replied: "JC Whitney has some great ones as good prices There Jeep page:"

martinezjn77 replied: "There are some really nice seat covers and massagers on this website. Hope it helps."

UCANTCME replied: "Just get a lower lumber support and that will do the trick....."
