How do I use my 4X4 on a 2002 Lexus RX300? I'm test driving a Lexus RX300 for a couple days, before I buy it, and the streets are covered in snow, I need to know which is the 4X4 button! Is it the ECT Power/Snow button?

Jed H replied: "you will need to engage the auxiliary motors and slow cool the primary function drive before using the two button press and hold technique of the dashboard to disassemble the crank shaft so it can reconnect and mesh with the accordance gears. hope this helps, took me ages to find out so glad to assist"

pjm3inpit replied: "the is no button to activate the 4X4. It is an all wheel drive system. 50% of the power goes to the front wheels and 50% to the back.(provided it is AWD) one one wheel slips the car sends the power to the other wheels with traction. You don't have to worry about it, just drive."

DarthFangNutts replied: "The RX300 is full time all-wheel drive. You don't have to engage or disengage it. It's not like "real" 4x4 where you can engage or disengage as needed. That's why the RX300 is not really for true off roading in any sort of rough terrains. As for the Power/Snow button, the power button holds the engine at a higher rev before shifting, thus giving you a sense of "more power" and the snow setting launches the RX300 from 2nd gear at a stop, rather than 1st gear, so that the engine to the transmission doesn't send as much power to the wheels, to prevent snow slipping. I've found with that with good tires (Michelin Cross-Terrain) the RX300 handles well in snow with the AWD and you don't need the snow setting. Anyway, hope this answers your question. Don't believe the first guy/gal and their stupid answer... what a turd some people are."

what does "ect pwr" means in a lexus is 300 and what does it do? it is a little buttom tha is by the shif nob.when you push the buttom i get some letters in the dashboard that it say ect pwr. Also it has a little buttom that say snow, can somebody tellme what does it do because i live in an area with a lot of snow and i can't feel the diference when i push that buttom, thanz

delucanick2003 replied: "The ECT PWR function makes the transmission shift more abruptly and offers a sportier driving experiences. The ECT SNOW function retards the shifts, thusly reducing the likely of traction loss on slippery surfaces."

ktbaron replied: "It is a gearbox control switch. when in power the gearbox will rev much higher before changing gear."

kristy8185 replied: "I have an IS 300 and I live in Northern Indiana which gets a lot of snow...the snow button is great...it's like extra help in the traction area. I've noticed that you can't go very fast when using this feature but it's great to have on slushy icy roads!"
