what gets better gas mileage an up to year 2004 4.0 v6 ford explorer or a 4.7 v8 jeep grand cherokee limited? i want both under 2004 like maybe a 1999-2004 model

crownvicp71 replied: "both get good gas mileage, it would not be much different."

Rose replied: "A v6 is a smaller engine than a v8 it will use less ."

camaro_rsss67 replied: "jeeps are not very good for gas mileage, and 4.0 liter ford seems to me to be alittle under powered."

drag1line replied: "According to they are rated exactly the same. Now..having said that..axle ratios, tires, and local driving conditions affect them both. Personally...go for the Jeep Limited. Good luck either way."

Rodney B replied: "actually i have the grand cherokee your talking about and i get around 19-21 city and about 1-3 miles gain on the highway.i love my jeep and wouldnt trade it for the world, but watch out the blower fans in the heating/aircond. like to go out. but its a 30 dollar fix so dont sweat it. go for the jeep!!"

march replied: "The 8 in the Jeep is a good engine but the best you should expect on the highway is 17. If you lucky and run synthetics, a couple more. My work truck is the Explorer 4wd with the 4.0 and I get 22 hwy, 17 city. The Jeep will be more fun. The Explorer is lower and less capable off road."

bimmer replied: "why not a jeep with a 4.0L V6. the V6 will always be better at gas mileage than a V8. I would go for a jeep with a six."

Doggzilla replied: "That really isnt a competition, the 4.7 blows away the Ford 4.0. I used to have a 4.0 ranger and now I have a jeep with a 4.0 in it and its FAST, way faster than the ford, and about the same mileage. A Cherokee only weighs 3000 lbs, so even with 180hp its very quick, very responsive. I love my jeep, I wouldnt know what to do if I had all the power of the 4.7. The 4.7 is very very fast and the 4.7HO version is almost as fast as a prelude, easily beats most ricers."

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners? I'm looking at a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee to purchase. 51,000 miles, great condition. I'd like to ask any owners if they've had bad experiences with them, besides the bad gas mileage.

alymar replied: "All I can say is go for it! Jeep's are great. I made a BIG mistake trading mine in about a year ago. I want it back! :( They are great in snow too."

2004 Nissan Xterra vs 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo? Both with 50,000 miles, Both cost around $13-14k(our limit). We need a reliable SUV with O.K. gas mileage. 1. My Girl and I are going to go on camping trips, hitting the snow, beach etc... 2. We already have a 99 escort as a commuter, everyday vehicle 3. We want something that is roomy and looks good at the same time. 4. We Plan to keep the vehicle for about 4 or 5 years. Which is a better buy and why? Is there another SUV in that price range?

Jeremy w replied: "Nissan"

UCANTCME replied: "Go with the Nissan, you will be better off in the long run."

Geno replied: "Nissan's are typically more reliable long term."

pbleek replied: "Nissan will be more reliable, get better gas mileage, higher resale value and is a more capable off roader. Grand Cherokee mileage is 13 city, 17 highway, 14 combined Xterra V-6, 4WD is 16 city/ 19 highway, 17 combined."

Stupid Flanders replied: "Both are great for off-roading, but the X-Terra is more reliable and holds its value better, per consumer reports. Gas milege isn't so great in either. You will average about 17 in the X-Terra and 18 in the Grand Cherokee. I have a Honda Element that I use for camping and hauling things. The high roofline creates a lot of cargo room and I average about 24 mpg. Plus, the flooring is polyeurathane, (and not carpet), and the seats are waterproof (Front and rear in the EX model), so cleaning is a breeze. It is also available as a FWD or an AWD. The only downside of the Element is that it is not considered an off-road vehicle."

chris2EM replied: "You should get the Xterra None of them will have good gas mileage Both will do well off-road But the Xterra will be more reliable And the Xterra will have better resale I would also suggest a Toyota 4runner"

Gas mileage or Good looks? Hello, I have a pretty tough decision to make and I thought maybe you guys could help me out. Right now I own a 1998 red honda civic, it's pretty ugly but does ok with gas mileage (25 to the gallon) Yesterday my friend offered me her 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I checked it out and it is gorgeous, new tires, nice blue color and she's offering it to me for $2800. That's a great price, I could trade in my civic and get more than that which would allow me to have some extra cash, problem is the jeep only gets about 12 miles to the gallon. which means my $40 fill up will be boosted to a $95 fill up So here's the question: Get the awesome looking jeep or the fuel efficient ugly civic?

hello replied: "unless it's tore up, i prefer the look of the honda, so i'd go with it anyway... but at that price why is she selling it? and why so low? i'd look into that, it may be broken already and you will more than double what you pay in gas, and nearly in insurance as well... are you ready for that?"

Rai replied: "I'd stick with the Civic; looks mean nothing (in my opinion) if the car's gonna cost more than double the price in gas in a year, especially with gas prices as they are, and, also, if something happens to it (teens in the neighborhood, whatever have you - depends on where you are), it kind of defeats the purpose of getting a car that looks awesome. Then again, if you have activities that only a Jeep can drive you through, that's a plus - but the low price is indeed awfully suspicious and probably would be good to investigate. This is coming from someone who'd simply rather spend money on other things, though. If you have cash to burn, go for whatever tickles your fancy so long as it works."

Jimmy d. - Floridian~`` replied: "$2800. sounds ridiculously low for an '04 Cherokee. Maybe the gas mileage is the reason? Give this one some real thought. I'd opt for the economy, at least for now. If you could handle both and put the Jeep away for later, then Ok."
