happypappy replied: "yes the computer keys are expensive and you have to go to a dealer."

castillon93 replied: "well they are expensive especially if u need the keyless entry and that will be at least $100 while the chip keys are like $50 depending where u go"

Simon W replied: "try ebay you can get keys with a chip there and take it to a dealer to reprogram it. make sure you know its around 45.00 to reprogram the keys you have to reprogram them both. do it soon before you lose both its a very expensive mistake trust me i made that mistake once cost me over 250.00 for a new key, program the key, get it towed, and a locksmith luckily the dealer had the key numbers or it would have been way more."

how much it roughly costs to get a duplicate key for nissan almera with VIN or car documents? as I lost my only car key..

Chesca 84 replied: "Approx. £20"

dodge man replied: "if you do it at a dealer its 5 bucks a key ,and that isn't bad at all,i had two extra made for a customer from a dealer and it was around 11 bucks tax and all, good luck with it."

Alan K replied: "depends on whether it is a transponder key check with dealer . most cars after 1995 use transponder. be aware this will be expensive as car has to be towed to dealer and new key programmed in. if not transponder there will be key no in sevice book . glove box lid or poss stamped on rear boot lock( you will have to remove lock) take number to dealer to cut key . have another search for key tomorrow sometimes they turn up!! all this info is correct as i used to work as a car locksmith"

Grim R replied: "Approx. £20"

im Zo fly replied: "if your key has a security chip in it it will cost you around 100$. thats roughly what it cost me to get a key for my 03 350z"

i have lost my nissan almera car keys, anybody knows how to make a duplicate without a key? i don't have any spare key and don't know how to get a duplicate one, plus anyone knows how to find the key code so that I can get a duplicate key made from this key code

july11_rip_onion replied: "Ask somebody smart?"

B replied: "go to the nissan dealership they can make you one"

Pengy replied: "Take your vin number and registration to a Nisan dealer they can make one up (had to do this twice for my kids)"

Malibu K replied: "You should have gotten a small metal tag with your keys with a four digit code on it. I hope you kept it... any dealer can make you a set if you have the code. They can also do it with the VIN, but it costs more for some dumb reason."

zebrajeep replied: "Go to a Nissan dealer, with proof of ownership (title etc..) and the cars VIN number they should be able to cut you a new key. Or go to a locksmith, same thing..."

Pearl N replied: "Contact the Nissan company and give them the vehicle reg number they may have a key they can remake for you their. Good luck and check your washing machine and all pockets and grocery bags."

Grim R replied: "go to the nissan dealership they can make you one"

How can i get a duplicate '02 Altima key (w/ the security chip) made without paying $150+ @ the dealership? just bought used nissan & was only given 1 key at the dealership only to find out that it costs over $150 to get an extra key made b/c of the chip inside (that prevents someone from being able to steal it). any ideas on getting around this?

tomerlind replied: "if you have the original you should be able to go to a locksmith..and it should cost around 50.00 a key plus coding the chip.......goood luck"

FLYC3 replied: "NO there is no real way around it. the computer has to get that signal from the "chip" or it will disable a few key systems. If you bought it from Nissan dealer i would talk to the sales department they may be able to help. I know our guys dont sell it unless there are 2 keys and 2 fobs. on certified cars and trucks."

DARRELL S replied: "SURF THE WEB,OR GO TO EBAY,BUY THE KEY AND HAVE IT PROGRAM AT THE DEALERSHIP.."

Cruiser replied: "Another good reason why Nissan sucks!"

melanch0ly_jailer replied: "The best thing for you to do is to buy the blank key on ebay. Place a call to two or more dealerships and get you a good price. There's no workaround to the problem since Nissan keys are equipped with the immobilizer chip (a neat trick, I think). I've bought keys off ebay for less that $20 and got the dealership to program it for less than $100. You just got to look around, dealerships aren't always out to pull your guts inside out."

97 nissan sentra wouldn't start, now it does? Hey guys So I started my nissan and drove it over to a friends house, maybe an hour later i went and tried to start it, turned the key and nothing happened, I just heard a slight buzzing or humming sound, so I checked otu the battery and the terminals and it looked good but i had the battery tested and it tests good, reinstalled it and still nothing, the key turns but nothing happens after that. I just tried it again like 30 minutes later and it started up no problem and has been since, anybody have any idea what this might be? I'm using a duplicate key that i had made at lowes, but for the past month it hasn't caused me any problems, if this could be an issue of not using the original cut nissan key I can go back to that, ive heard with my old grand am sometimes the keys get worn and the computer inside the car is thinking its a counterfeit key, im taking the car to have it looked at on monday but if you guys have any advice id love to hear it, thanks again

yaguru replied: "how are the battery terminals?? Make sure the connections are nice and tight. A loose connection on the battery terminals can cause problems."

modgirl replied: "I had a 2004 Nissan Sentra and sometimes when I would try to start it up, it would take a few different attempts. Some days it would start up without any problems, but it started to become more frequent. I ended up having a new battery installed and I never had the problem again. I don't think my battery was in bad condition, my car was fairly new, but the newer battery did solve the problem. Good luck with your car!"

2005 Nissan Sentra: I was only given 1 key by the dealer I bought it from. How can I obtain another one? I tried a locksmith who told me he would charge me $240 for a replacement key and programming. Another said they don't duplicate keys. I'm not sure what to do. As the question states I was only given one key by the dealer. Is this unusual? Should I be worried that someone else out there has a key? The car was owned by a company (probably leased) but regardless...I'm concerned. ideally, I'd like to have a key made...but I'm not sure it's possible even though I've heard it should be under 100 dollars, the first locksmith's quote was just too much for me to spend right now.

xxmack675hpxx replied: "Best thing to do is shop around. Typically programmed keys are pretty expensive and can range any where from $140 to $590 depending on the manufacture of the vehicle. Our locksmith here in Worcester, Massachusetts when I asked him about your key stated that he would charge you $165 for a single key and $275 for 2 keys. So you may want to check around where your from and see if either your ignition can be reprogrammed with new keys. That would be the only safe bet of making sure you are the only one with keys to your vehicle. That is the down fall to buying a former lease vehicle."

Benjamin J replied: "Its not unusual. In fact is pretty common with used cars to receive one key. Sometimes salesman loose the keys and sometimes dealers are only given one key when they bought the car. Call your local Nissan dealer and find out how much they charge for the key and compare. In the future you can ask the dealer for two sets of keys before buying the car. Get it in writing."

dodge man replied: "the only ones who can make these keys is the dealer, that was probably the only key they was given when the car was traded in to them, they can make you another key and program i,and the should do this for free since you bought it from them,id ask and see what they say ,they will either say yes or no,or want to charge you for it,this happens a lot though, and your right some out there may have a key to your car, good luck with it."

Nissan Sentra 97. sometimes doenst start.? Its a little weird problem. Some times all of a sudden my Sentra 97 GXE doesnt start. It has happened five times in 10 months. The first time it happened I got the ignition system checked out and got wirings and spark plugs replaced. But it still happens. I wont start for hours and I keep on trying the ignition and try also try to tighten the wires going to the spark plug. I also try to press the accelerator along with turning the key. And after hours of doing all this, it starts all of a sudden. Can duplicate keys/ worn out keys be a factor? Coz I have worn out keys . Help??? Sorry for putting incomplete question.I want to add another thing which might change the whole scenario. When I say it doesnt start, I meant it doesnt do anything. It doesnt even create the noise which usually a car creates while giving ignition. Its like a totally dead car at that point of time. Also the battery is 100% perfect.

LU LU replied: "no, i had the same problem and its not your keys. first thing you need to check if it works properly is your "starter"(very important part for starting your car). if sometimes it just wont start like you said its probably false wiring on it, which still means you need to change it. if your starter is working well and you dont have problems with your battery, then its a long shot it might be your alternator but its possible. if all of these parts are ok then it can only be the "main computer', believe it or not your car has one. fixing the computer shouldnt be much money to repair. We have the same car, it might be a common problem among nissan sentras."

John Paul replied: "Sounds like ignition electrical switch. However I have seen it all on older sentra's Get a Lockshith to make a new key or go by nissan and get a original key made from a code. Write that code down for futrue keys. Is this an automatic or manual."

gears replied: "first of all is the starter turning over the engine? need better info to diagnois this problem."

Nissan Versa starting problems? Hello. I have a 2008 Nissan Versa, purchased in March of '08. For the last few months I've been having a horrible time getting it to start. I have to hold the key for a good ten-fifteen seconds before it catches and starts. There is no corrosion or acid on the battery, and no other signs of anything that I can see. I've now taken it into the Nissan dealership twice where I purchased it, and they refuse to fix it yet, stating "They can't duplicate the problem". I find this ridiculous that they kept my car for TWO weeks and couldn't duplicate it, yet it does it at least once or twice a day for me. The problem keeps getting worse and worse, and they seem to not want to help at all. My mother works as a manager at another dealership (chrysler/jeep/dodge) so I know how they operate, and I also know that I am seriously getting the runaround here. I finally called the Nissan Corporate office today and filed a complaint. HOPEFULLY they will actually do something about this. Anyone else have the same problem? The brakes are also super squeaky... and I am not a "hard braker". They told me this was normal.. true or not? I'm a college student and put alot of my hard earned money into buying this car myself. BIG mistake. Shoulda went with someone else I believe I got a screwed lemon too. The only problem is, they'll only "lemon law" a car that has had the problem AND been fixed 3 times. They won't even FIX IT a first time. I have one last appointment with them tomorrow morning at 8am. If its not resolved by this trip, I'm taking legal action. We just hired a lawyer for our company, and he'd be more than happy to seek after Nissan as well.

Somethingtotry replied: "More than likely it is the crank position sensor. I had the same problem with a new Nissan and that is what it turned out to be. They must have installed a bad batch on the assembly line. Tell them to check their technical service bulletins and I bet they find one on it."

jamieleee12 replied: "My mom has an 07 Versa. It had zero miles and about 2 months after owning it, the paint on her front bumper started peeling off! She has warranty on it, and they gave her the run around as well. She got so sick and tired not getting any answers, she gave up and said 'forget it'. The car looks awful and embarassing. The check engine light has come on as well. Also, the 'weather stripping' on both rear doors has peeled off and hangs out the window as she drives. I would understand this happening if it were an older car, but this was and is a brand new vehicle. My mom says she got a 'lemon' but I say she got screwed. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful"

Jacob replied: "Congratulations on being brainwashed on thinking a Japanese vehicle is nice. Next time you should purchase an american vehicle. What you should do is take the battery into an independent shop, its possible the battery has a short in it and that may be causing the issue."
