Going to NYC Radio City Music Hall Thursday 8:00PM from New Jersey (Hoboken)...traffic? Should I leave early? I am planning on leaving Jersey at 4:30PM to cross the Hudson.. Traffic into NYC? Lincoln Tunnel? Ferry? GWB? Traffic in NY? I have prepaid Parking dunno if I should go Subway!! Please help!! Best way to go and watch the show on time!!

emcee lexicon replied: "no chance you'll make it... you need to be in NYC before traffic starts to build up b/c it is VERY unforgiving... take a bus (126) or subway train to the Port Authority in NYC, which is at 41st and 8th... then you can walk to RCMH from there in less than 20 minutes or take a cab and be there in 15 mins..."

NYC Chutzpah replied: "take the path to the last stop 33rd street, then get the D or F train uptown to 50th st. Go upstairs and you will be right by Radio City. No traffic and will cost a lot less then the tolls and parking not to mention there will be no traffic to get stuck in. After the show take a walk through Rockerfeller Center and then stroll down 5th ave maybe even walk down to 33rd and catch the PATH train back to Hoboken Enjoy"

Native New Yorker replied: "Forget driving, take public transit instead. Since you're Hoboken, take the PATH train from Hoboken to 33rd Street (Blue Line on the PATH rail map). Once in Manhattan, you can take the 6th Avenue subway line (Orange Line on the subway map) from 34th Street to Rockefeller Center. The fare on the PATH is $1.75 and the on the subway is $2.25 each way. Good luck Native New Yorker"

Best time to go into NYC by Lincoln Tunnel? I drive every night from NJ into New York City through the Lincoln Tunnel. When is the traffic the best? Does it let up at 6PM? 7PM? 8PM? Would I save time driving North to the George Washington bridge? Thanks.

lingua06437 replied: "During commuting hours it will never be good. Start listening to the traffic reports on 880 AM and 1010 AM. They have them every 10 minutes. (every minute ending in 8 for 880 and every minute ending in 0 for 1010) I would know how to get to your place via the holland tunnel, the GW bridge and the lincoln tunnel. Just pick which ever way is moving fastest at the time. Very often they will give reccomendations. Why not park in Jersey and take the path over?"

tham153 replied: "Despite the GWB having something like a dozen lanes on its two decks, it is normally backed up until nearly 10 pm, and the mess resumes by 6 am. The Lincoln Tunnel is marginally better, but I try to avoid it before 8:30 pm. Is it possible for you to use the Goethals-Verrazano route? You would then enter Manhattan by either the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel or by one of the lower Manhattan bridges (Brooklyn, Manhattan or Williamsburg)."

zebj25 replied: "I find its usually ok after 7:30 or so, unless theres something going on at the Garden or Meadowlands."

Memorial day traffic from NYC to Philadelphia, Friday after work? Leaving tomorrow after work (~6pm) to Philly. 1) Park in midtown, leave through Lincoln Tunnel 2) Park around 125th, leave across the George Washington Bridge 3) Travel back home to Westchester, leave across the Tappan Zee Which is the least painful solution? And should I try to avoid I-95 going down there?

hfrankmann replied: "1) is the only way this the others are out of the way quite a bit. Bring music and be of good cheer, since you can't beat the traffic anyway."

iceman replied: "They are all suicide inducing options. I dont even want to think about it..."

mr danger replied: "Park Midtown >head downtown & exit Manhattan via the Holland Tunnel Take I-78 West to the NE Extension of the PATPKE and on into Philly Pay close attention on the I-78 to I-476 connection b/c it's poorly designed"

Brown Eyed Girl ;) replied: "It will be hectic especially because they're predicting nice weather for a change. Use mass transit. It may be quicker and cheaper too with the gas prices go up so much!"

driving to new york city on a sunday morning? lincoln or holland tunnel? i'm driving to nyc on a sunday morning from new jersey..hope to enter around 11 am...does it matter which tunnel in terms of traffic etc.? lincoln or holland? i'm staying closer to lincoln..fyi

Bethnyc replied: "on a sunday morning either is fine. just check for road closures in the surrounding areas to see if there are any. on the weekends there are a lot of street fares and stretches of avenues closed to traffic. This is the what may make the decision for you. I've posted a link to street fairs for july. edit if you are staying closer to the Lincoln on a sunday morning there is no reason not to take the Lincoln. any extra traffic will be minimal compared to taking the Holland and then driving up from there.. FYI: the state has instituted a new number to get up to the minute info. on traffic conditions : 511"

Staten island ferry replied: "probably the holland tunnel, because the lincoln tunnel has too many buses got to Port authority bus terminal"

CuBsFaN replied: "Holland, Lincoln is busier"

pink replied: "Traffic through any of the those tunnels is always a tose up. You will probably get lucky and not encounter too much traffic being that it's a weekend and it's early in the morning but since it's a holiday weekend, you might encounter more than usual. I've always found that Lincoln was the worst but I have a few horror stories from the Holland as well."

bill k replied: "I would take the tunnel closer to my final destination. Go Lincoln."
